STATEMENT: INHERITANCE OF CHARACTERISTICS

This work, The Inheritance of Characteristics, deals with my interest in identity and recontextualization of images. I’m using the conventional role of plate to paper to stand in for parent to child. The amount our parents play in our development is different for every person but, through my own experiences I feel that some factors of our personality are given to us at birth.

These etched zinc plates have a direct connection to printmaking and also reject those associations. While these plates have been inked, they are not meant to be printed. The potential for a finished traditional print will always go unfulfilled.

The imagery and text on the plates are taken from the "Choose Your Own Adventure" children’s book series. In this series, a narrator informs the reader of their current situation and forces them to make choices. I relate this to how we may be genetically predisposed to certain behaviors or traits.
